School was hard for me as a kid. Not because I didn’t have the smarts, but usually because I didn’t have the attention span.

English I enjoyed (shocker!), Science kept me interested, math and history—don’t get me started.  My brother and Mom would tutor me in math and my Dad would sit with me weekly and re-teach history and geography, always making it into a story he knew I would find intriguing.

Tell me something in a story—I’ll remember it forever. Make it engaging? I’ll be retelling it years later.

Now, there was one bright star of my educational timeline and that was Speech and Debate—where I landed the only A+ in the class. God I love to argue. It was then and there my parents were CERTAIN I would become a lawyer. Instead, I spend my days fiercely advocating for my clients through the written word. Kinda worked out!

Now, how did I get such a stellar grade in Speech and Debate? I always challenged assumptions. I’d also let the grey area lead. I’d let people think there COULD be another option—a different way to think.

On this week’s episode of Bound + Determined, my brilliant friend, messaging genius and signature talk wizard Terri Trespicio shares that one of the best ways to captivate an audience is to challenge an assumption. Turns out 1998 Richelle was onto something.

In this episode we talk about the power of creating a talk and bringing your message to the stage.

LISTEN NOW!

You’ll hear about:
