how to write a good memoir

Everybody has limitations. If you asked me to go pilot a plane or scale a mountain–it would be a hard pass. Mostly because I don’t want to, but also because they require skill-sets that aren’t my forté.

But some limitations are born in story. The stories we tell ourselves, the comments we hold on to from childhood, the stories of our circumstances. how to write a memoir

Almost every writer I’ve worked with has a story playing on a loop in their head. Any of these sound familiar?

  • Is anyone going to care about this?
  • What do I really have to say that hasn’t been said before?
  • Who am I to do this?

The list could go on and on.

This week on Bound + Determined (Yes! We’re back!) I chat with Karena Kilcoyne, a writer and expert who teaches people to heal from past trauma and rise above their story. A former criminal defense attorney representing death row inmates, Karena has leveraged her rich life experiences and shared her smart, spiritual perspective on life, love, and loss in her book currently being written: Rise Above the Story.

LISTEN NOW!

So we break down:

  • The process of writing a memoir
  • How to find healing through writing
  • Deciding to teach from personal + professional experience
  • How the right book idea can open doors
  • Creating a brand to support your writing
